Theme: A Letter to My Future Self: Dear Tomorrow…

This year, the SUS Ads Video Challenge supports Forward Singapore, an exercise to review and refresh Singapore’s social compact and set out a roadmap for the next decade and beyond to make Singapore an even better place to live, work and play for everyone.

We want to see what you imagine this future to be. Give us a glimpse of what life might be like for our parents and children, careers and education, friendships and relationships, growing up and growing old. How might it impact our collective strength and resilience? What new challenges might we face and how would we overcome them? What is the role of your future self in all of it?

Entries should be no more than 60 seconds long and may take inspiration from one or a combination of Forward SG’s six pillars: Empower, Equip, Care, Build, Steward and Unite. More on them in the section below.

Judges

Jean Tay

JEAN TAY is an award-winning Singaporean playwright with over two decades of experience in the theatre scene. She has written over 30 plays, musicals, and screenplays which have been performed in Singapore and internationally. She has been nominated four times for Best Original Script for the Life! Theatre Awards and won for ‘Everything But the Brain’ in 2006. An experienced educator who has taught playwriting modules and masterclasses in both local and overseas universities, her plays are currently studied as O and N-level literature texts. Jean is also experienced in screenwriting and corporate work, having worked as a five-time scriptwriter for the National Day Parade Show and on short film series commissioned by different government agencies.

K. Rajagopal

K. RAJAGOPAL is one of Singapore’s most well-known and established filmmakers, whose works span films, television dramas, documentaries and TVCs. His award-winning feature film, A Yellow Bird, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and its Asian premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in 2016. He was also one of the seven directors of the SG50 film ‘7 Letters’ in 2015 and recently worked on a live cinema project titled ‘Pompeii’ in 2023 for the Singapore International Arts Festival. Along with his various short films, he was also behind one of Singapore’s most successful and loved branded content films, Singtel’s Chinese New Year Films which aired from 2020 to 2023 and garnered millions of views on YouTube.

Annette Lee

ANNETTE LEE is a Singaporean filmmaker, actor and singer-songwriter. She is best known for her videos that she creates on social media, where she consistently connects with more than 2 million people monthly. A storyteller at heart, Annette sees her work in film, comedy and music as ways of telling tales that can touch lives. In addition to writing ‘The Cai Fan Song’ from her own series ‘The Ann & Ben Show’, she has also performed her original music at festivals such as Baybeats and Mediacorp specials. In 2020, She released her second album titled ‘Song For The Underdog' produced by five-time Grammy-winning producer Jerricho Scroggins. The title track went on to win the National Youth Music Award in 2020.

To equip every Singaporean with the opportunity to thrive, grow and realise their aspirations, regardless of their starting point in life.

The Equip pillar is about readying individuals for employability through education and skill development, to nurture students of diverse abilities. This includes building supportive family environments and diverse learning models to unlock their potential. To create a more inclusive society, it is essential to provide dedicated support for children with special education needs to succeed based on unique strengths and interests.

Care

Health and Social Support

To enable every Singaporean to lead a dignified and fulfilling life, and to better care for themselves and for others around them.

The Care pillar is about enabling a dignified and fulfilling life for all Singaporeans by addressing challenges posed by demographic changes such as an ageing population and low birth rates. To empower families and individuals, we must shift from healthcare provision to population health; from support measures for parenthood to a supportive environment for families; and from social assistance to social empowerment. Together, we can create a more resilient, inclusive and caring Singapore that nurtures and uplifts lives.

Home and Living Environment

To transform our living environment and to build a more liveable home for all who stake their futures here.

The Build pillar explores how we can create an endearing home for all, with greener and smarter living environments, diverse live-work-play options, affordable housing and A Light Never Goes Out, and vibrant partnerships with local stakeholders. Everyone must be involved in shaping Singapore's future and sharing its limited resources to build a liveable and inclusive home for future for generations to come.

Environmental and Fiscal Sustainability

To foster a more sustainable way of life that stewards our resources responsibly for future generations.

The Steward pillar is about managing environmental and fiscal challenges amidst a changing global landscape. All of us can do our part to foster a more sustainable way of life that stewards Singapore's resources for future generations.

Unite

Singaporean Identity

To grow our sense of belonging to Singapore, our commitment to citizenship and our sense of mutual responsibility towards each other.

The Unite pillar explores how we will strengthen bonds, build a better society, and promote justice and equality. How do we call upon everyone to play their part in creating a united Singapore regardless of race, language or religion? How do we rally everyone to build a society that is cohesive, inclusive and united?
